Kelowna Water Shortages

With the water levels being lower than usual last year, there is cause for concern going into the summer of 2010. The snow pack is not nearly high enough from our mild winter and many farmers have right to be concerned as they will be cut another 20% of there usual water supply.
If we have a hot summer with little rain there will be many farmers in danger of losing crops and additional water cuts could be on the horizon for the Okanagan.

Toby Pike, General Manager for the South East Kelowna Irrigation warns of a water shortage.

So what can we do as individuals to ensure we are doing our part to conserve water? I suggest start with simple water saving tactics like getting low flow toilets, low flow water taps and low flow shower heads like the ones at TLC Energy Solutions. Our 2 GPM shower heads alone can conservatively save a two person house hold, taking five minuet showers once a day, over 1825 gallons of water per year. This is assuming you already have a 2.5 GPM low flow shower head, which means even more water can be saved in some cases.
